Marking the first Nelson Mandela International Day since Mandela’s death in December last year, UNO Baku, in partnership with the Baku Education Information Centre (BEIC), held an interactive session for youth and adolescents about the one of the world’s greatest public figures – Nelson Mandela. The atmosphere was friendly on a cool autumn evening of September 11th, as the UNO Baku team jointly with the Baku Education and Information Center (BEIC) brought together high school students and staged an interactive seminar to highlight the role of the United Nations and to discuss ways to accelerate the progress towards the anti-poverty targets known as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), with a particular focus on Ensuring Environmental Sustainability, branded as the 7th Millennium Development Goal (MDG7). On a hot summer afternoon on 24 July, the students of English as a Second Language (ESL), excited to expand their knowledge of the English language and communication skills, while deepening their knowledge of the history and workings of the United Nations, hosted the UNO Baku team at the Baku based US-Azerbaijan Education Center.
