Importance of Literacy and Education for Sustainable Development

The event brought together young NGO representatives, community members and young teachers to discuss this year’s observance themed “Literacy and Sustainable Development”, with the aim of highlighting the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies. UNO Baku and Education Center for Youth Set Special Education Session for IDP Community

IMG_2014To celebrate International Literacy Day, globally observed on 8 September, UNO Baku and the Education Center for Youth representatives traveled to Aghjabadi to highlight the importance of education and literacy with the most underprivileged and neglected internally displaced peoples population (IDP), in Azerbaijan. The IDPs are faced with many hardships, chief among which are their financial limitations of sending their children to school. The session that took place within the wider UN4U campaign, was set to reach out to the country’s most vulnerable youth and their parents and encourage them in achieving their goals through education.
